Volunteer Position Descriptions:
Class Guide (majority of volunteers needed in this category)
· Assigned to one 4th grade class.
· Guides class around to their activities and back to the buses at the end of the day.
A considerable amount of walking is required (approximately 2 miles).
· Must remain with the class until they get on the bus.
· Guides will not be responsible for discipline; that is the teacher’s duty.
· Familiarity with the University of Dayton campus is preferred, but not required.
· A tour of campus will be given the morning of the festival.
· Timeframe: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Building Leader
· Provide directions for students, teachers, and presenters to their classroom or restrooms.
· Assist presenters (as needed) and make sure they have water, if requested. Requires lifting and carrying.
· Help set-up and take down signs and other festival materials through 12:30 p.m. (or the end of the festival).
· Timeframe: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Volunteer Check-In / Volunteer Lunch Coordinator
· Help set up registration table and organize t-shirts.
· Check-in presenters and volunteers in the morning.
· Make sure presenters and volunteers receive one lunch.
· Help at the end of the day with tear down and clean-up.
· This job is mostly inside. May require some lifting.
· Timeframe: promptly 7:15 am – 1:00 pm
Usher/Assistant for Auditorium Presenter
· Assist the entertainer as needed. Requires walking, lifting and carrying.
· Help presenter set-up.
· Help students find their seats quickly and quietly. The turnaround time will be short.
· Ensure presentations end on time so schedules are maintained.
· Help the presenter tear down at the end of the day.
· Timeframe: 8:00 am – 12:30 pm
Student Arrival/Departure Area
· Assist the arrival/departure coordinator to ensure students arrive and depart safely.
· Keep the school arrival and departure area organized.
· This job is outdoors and requires walking.
· Timeframe: 8:00 am – 1:15 pm
Mascot Assistant
· Assist mascot, keep them on schedule and ensure safe interactions with students.
· This job is indoors/outdoors and requires walking
· Timeframe: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Photo Assistant
· Take photos of mascot with assigned classes, keep them on schedule and ensure safe interactions
· This job is indoors/outdoors and requires walking
· Timeframe: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Gopher
· Assist with transporting presenters, volunteers, and committee members around campus.
· Must be able to drive a golf cart safely
· Run errands as directed by the planning committee.
· Timeframe: 7:00 am – 2:00 pm
Bus Parking Facilitators
· Organize buses in parking lot and ensure buses are arriving and departing on schedule.
· Assist bus drivers regarding routes to campus and proper parking locations and procedures on campus.
· This job is outdoors and is physically demanding.
· Timeframe: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Water Trailer Attendant
· Stay with Water Trailer
· Provide cups of water to students, teachers, volunteers, etc
· Clean up area around water trailer after students have left
· Timeframe: 9:00am-12:30pm
First Aid Tent
· Kettering Health staff (responding to minor illnesses and injuries)
· First Aid/ CPR certification required.
· Timeframe: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
If you arrive early, please assist with final campus set up and the unloading of equipment for presenters and entertainers. Committee members are in orange shirts and can determine where your help is needed.
